Tragedy Strikes The Benders on the road.

   On June 13th while on route to a gig the band van blew a tire and the ensuing accident took the life of Benders guitarist David Keller. Saxophonist Ed Zwiefel ( who was filling in for Kevin ) and Byron sustained injuries in the wreck also. Eddie was treated and released. Byron was critically injured and is now at home recovering from his injuries. Campy was following behind in another car and was not injured. As you can imagine we are all devastated by this terrible tragedy and ask for your thoughts and prayers for all that are hurting at this time.

 

KevinMayMusic expanding to include web design!

   "I've always been interested in doing it and lately people are asking me to do it so I will!"   Kevin says, " I've been fine tuning my web design skills and really love the chance to help other people with their business plans. I have several clients now and the list keeps growing! I will set up the web site, acquire the domain and whatever the client needs!

Blast-O-Phone Studio's Update

         Blast-O-Phone Studio's is getting busier all the time reports Kevin,  " I am really happy with the volume of work right now. I am working with all kind's of artists from Country to Pop to Hip Hop. I wanted to create a relaxed recording environment and that is what people are telling me they like. I'm extremely happy with the sound quality.  

The Benders New CD Now Available!

      The Benders Have released their latest CD entitled "Tune In and Rock". The CD contains many requested tunes as well as a few surprises and yes Campy Sings on this one! songs include Rock Around the Clock, Old Time Rock and Roll, Get a Job, and the Cadets classic Stranded in the Jungle to name a few! stay tuned for future release updates! The CD is available at all shows and from the Benders web site www.thebenders.net

The Benders, The Benders, The Benders, The Benders            & Kevin May again!!

      The Benders and Kevin May have re-united for 2004  as Kevin after a 6 year absence will once again perform with the  popular Midwest Show Band. The current new line-up will feature once again what many consider to be the best in the Bands almost 20 year history!  "After an 8 year stint in the 90's it feels like a time warp when I look across the stage." Kevin recently explained, he went on to add. " The Music is fun and it gives me a chance to work different aspects of performing."   

 

The Wichita Eagle does article featuring  Kevin May

       Many people have asked Kevin why he returned to Wichita From Roomful of Blues and the "Big Show". Kevin explains in an article from the Wichita Eagle. 

       Kevin May and The Deaconairs          "Mighty Lak' A Rose" 

        "Mighty Lak' A Rose" the Deaconairs latest CD features 16 cut's and was recorded at Special Blend Sound and Blast-O-Phone Studios. " I can honestly say I loved making this record, It was the record I have wanted to make for several years" Kevin explained. " we didn't need it for demo purposes or anything like that." He went on to explain that most records are done for some purpose or another. Mighty lak' A Rose was made simply  because they liked the material and wanted to record it. " The way it should be". 

Vintage Deaconair material Re-issued on CD

         The folks at blast-O-Phone productions have been busy of late and have re-released "Give It Up!" The Deaconairs 1990 recording before only available on cassette. The recording features the Saxophone combination of Darryl Hawkins and Kevin May. The recording was the only recording the late Darryl Hawkins recorded. If you like Saxophone then this record is for you. As well as featuring several Kevin May original tunes it feature's the song Harlem Nocturne. Kevin will tell you, " Harlem is by far the most requested song of my career, my signature tune some might say."  

Kevin May on New Roomful of Blues Record

        Rounder Records recently released a new Roomful of Blues anthology entitled The Blues will make you happy to! A comprehensive 30 year look at one of America’s blue’s institutions. It includes a wonderful booklet with a complete history of the band chronicling the bands rich recording history. It also includes unreleased material from Their Goes The Neighborhood including the song Poverty featuring Kevin May on Baritone Sax along with Chris Vachon on Guitar.
